Pessaries
At Insight, we provide comprehensive pessary services. Our specially trained physical therapists can help determine if a pessary is right for you.
What is a pessary?
A pessary is a medical grade silicone support device placed into the vagina to support the pelvic organs and the urethra.
Pessaries come in a variety of shapes and sizes. The reason for different shapes and sizes is so that the pessary can be custom fit for your individual anatomy and need.
Who can benefit from a pessary?
Any adult that is experiencing symptoms of pelvic organ prolapse and/or stress urinary incontinence would benefit from a pessary.
Symptoms of pelvic organ prolapse vary widely but can include pelvic pain, back pain, pelvic and/or perineal pressure, pelvic and/or perineal heaviness, bowel and/or bladder issues.
Important to note:
Pessary use is very individualized and it is important to discuss with your therapist whether you are a candidate for this medical device. As with any medical treatment, there are pros and cons that exist with the treatment which your therapist will be happy to discuss in detail with you.
Pessary use is a proven and effective tool to provide support of internal organs
